You asked for em, we got em! Macadamia nuts in the shell…a serious rare treat! Macadamia nuts have an extremely hard shell that is very difficult to open and are best suited for tropical birds such as Macaws. (Who, by the way, LOVE THEM!)
These delicacies taste delicious and can be eaten by people, but just FYI – regular nut crackers will not open macadamia nuts in the shell, and may even break. You must use a nut cracker specifically designed for macadamia nuts.
The best storage conditions for in shell macadamias are in an open container that is kept in a dry setting at room temperature. You can also freeze in shell macadamias but you should only pull out what you intend to use immediately, because moisture will form as they thaw which can ultimately lead to rotting of the nut.
